Notion Mail closes Sept 22. Export your drafts by the 21st.

Your email is safe in Gmail, but the drafts, scheduled sends, snippets and auto labels you built inside Notion Mail are deleted unless you pull them out first.

Notion is closing the Notion Mail inbox on 22 September 2026. If you moved your email into it, the date that actually matters is the day before: 21 September is the last day to pull out anything that lives only inside the app.

Your actual email is not at risk. Notion Mail synced two ways with Gmail, so every message you sent or received also sits in your Gmail account and stays there after the app closes. Notion Mail only ever supported Gmail and Google Workspace addresses, so there is no separate mailbox to rescue and no migration to plan.

What disappears is the layer Notion built on top. Notion's help page says drafts, scheduled emails, snippets and attached files, and auto label instructions are permanently deleted if you do not export them first. The export opened on 25 June. Organisations under HIPAA coverage were told to move by 30 June.

All Notion plans are affected. This is not a tier change or a paywall — the app is going away for everyone, on every plan. Some pieces do survive: the Gmail AI Connector, mail blocks inside Notion pages, and Notion's agent-based email tools all keep working.

Why Notion killed it

The stated reason is that people stopped opening the inbox. Notion told TechCrunch that more than half of Notion Mail users already handle their email without ever opening it, having handed the job to agents. "We're going all in on using agents to run your inbox," the company said. Per TechCrunch, Mail launched in preview in 2024 after Notion acquired Skiff, and reached general availability in April 2025 as a challenger to Superhuman — about seventeen months of general release before the shutdown date.

What to do

  • Export before 21 September. Drafts and scheduled emails are the easiest things to lose, and a scheduled send that never fires is a silent failure.
  • Do not plan a mail migration. Your messages are already in Gmail.
  • If you built real process on snippets and auto labels, budget an afternoon to rebuild it elsewhere. Those rules do not travel.

Why it matters

If you ran client email through Notion Mail, your messages survive in Gmail but your drafts, scheduled sends and label rules do not. Export them before 21 September or they are gone for good.
