Relay.app is closing. Free accounts stop on August 15.
The automation tool is winding down with no reason given, no buyer and no successor — and anything you have not exported by your deadline is deleted.
Relay.app is shutting down. If you run automations on it, you have a hard deadline. Free accounts stop working after 15 August 2026 at 11:59pm PT. Paid accounts run until 14 September 2026 at 11:59pm PT. After each date the account and everything in it is permanently deleted.
Relay sat in the same bracket as Zapier and Make. Its own export list is the clearest description of what people built there: workflows, sequences, tables, AI prompts and MCP servers — the agent end of automation rather than plain if-this-then-that. The notice went up on 16 July, and new signups and free-to-paid upgrades were switched off the same day.
No reason is given. The notice names no acquirer, no successor product and no recommended alternative. Outside Relay's own page, the confirmations so far are migration guides from rival vendors: Make and Softr both published move-off-Relay posts within a day of the announcement.
What actually comes out
Workflows, sequences and MCP servers export as JSON. Tables export as CSV. Run history comes out too. What no export carries is your app connections — Relay says stored credentials and tokens are deleted with the account, so every integration has to be re-authorised by hand wherever you land. Annual subscribers should get a prorated refund for the unused part of the billing period within five business days.
What to do
- Export this week, not in September. Free users got 30 days and paid users 60. A missed export window is unrecoverable.
- The JSON is documentation, not a migration file. Nothing imports it. Before you rebuild, write down each workflow's trigger, the accounts it touches and where its output goes.
- List what fails silently. A dead automation does not email you an error — you just stop getting the leads, invoices or alerts it was producing, and you may not notice for weeks.
- Price the switch honestly. Rebuilding a dozen workflows on another platform is a day of work plus a new subscription, not a like-for-like swap.
The broader point is a boring one worth repeating: a venture-funded automation layer is a single point of failure sitting between all your other tools. Relay gave its free users four weeks. Anything load-bearing in your business should be something you could stand back up somewhere else inside a day.
Why it matters
If any part of your business runs on Relay — lead routing, invoicing, client onboarding — it stops on 15 August or 14 September and the data goes with it. Export now and budget a day to rebuild elsewhere.
